America Is Losing Southeast Asia
- ggm 2y ago..again. less flippantly, it bears remarking that when the TPP went ahead without the US, I think every other participant felt they got a better, more equitable outcome. This is concerning. Noting most-favoured-nation there are few relationships in the region more lasting than ANZUS and yet, we're already being fed signals that the US will renege on commitments to supply nuclear submarines, despite us paying to keep their building yards open: The effect of congress on treaties makes it next to impossible to believe there will be an outcome, no matter what the headline deliverable. We (australia) trashed a working relationship with france to secure these secondhand nuclear subs. If it turns out we won't get them, then we traduced a working partner for .. nothing. This is not an unusual experience for the S.E. Asian communities facing trade and defence relationships with the USA.
