I feel really guilty that we farm animals and honestly it’s getting harder and harder for me to be complacent. What should I do? If we already had lab based meat I would gladly migrate to that but thats far off.
What should I do? I know I need meat and animal protein, I just know it.
Should I just eat game meat and wild fish?
- gaganyaan 2y agoA pragmatic choice is paying for meat that comes from animals that had "one bad day", from a local farmer.
- jdmoreira 2y agoWhat does that mean? They are still being farmed right? Since they are sold for meat and there are no incentives to let them live a long life Basically they reach maturity and die
- aziaziazi 2y ago> they reach maturity Maturity is loosely used here, they reach a certain weight but not biological adulthood.
- gaganyaan 2y agoFarming can mean different things. If you want to eat meat, you can seek out meat from animals that have lead a good life, with all the food and self-actualization they want and no predators. Yeah, they inherently die before you eat them, but the life they lead was a fine one for their species. You can likely find this at a local farmer's market, and won't find it at Walmart. It'll be more expensive, but that's probably just the real cost of meat. If you don't like the sound of that, vegan food is getting better.
- aziaziazi 2y agoHad the same dichotomy for a while. If shutting your guilt or going vegan are not options, you gotta find something else in a way you find acceptable. Some throwed ideas: - raise and kill your own range chickens in a way you consider acceptable - hunt/fish yourself - read and get knowledges on humans needs, maybe your own need will change. - go discuss with small farmers (onsite), big one (at meat conventions), vegans, doctors…
