Has Intel seriously competed with Nvidia? After OpenCL died it was pretty much CUDA versus the world. Nobody competes with Nvidia, because the train left the station while all their competition fought each-other. Samsung and AMD both have more to gain and everything to lose from letting Nvidia dominate; Intel doesn't have to compete with Nvidia because in the datacenter they are a compliment to their commodity. Intel's "product" isn't being replaced in the datacenter, AMD and Samsung's is.
So much mental gymnastics go into making Intel's incompetence seem like a premeditated failure predicated on burning bridges with the industry. Of course they aren't going to sell silicon at-cost to Apple or OpenAI. That is called desperate stupidity, and we have the hindsight to prove that it wouldn't benefit them if they did agree to such a gambit.
