World Bank Halts Ads on X After They Appear Under Racist Content
- Zigurd 2y agoFrom the article: In a November 2022 post, Musk had vowed that X's new policy would be "freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach. Negative/hate tweets will be max deboosted & demonetized, so no ads or other revenue to Twitter," he said, adding that such content would be unfindable "unless you specifically seek it out, which is no different from rest of Internet." Evidently content moderation like that is the Full Self Driving of Twitter
- rsynnott 2y agoWell, (a) sensible, but (b) why does the World Bank have ads in the first place?
- jfengel 2y agoSome of it is "Come work for us". The majority seems to be brand-building. "See, we're not just 21st century colonialism! We make life better for you poors." The World Bank has kind of a negative reputation, which makes it harder to do even the good work they're supposed to do.
- aitchnyu 2y agoWill we still have the happy days of bad guys getting demonetized? Or will respectable companies and customers accept unfortunate ad placements as a fact of life?
- peutetre 2y agoThey just won't advertise on Twitter. There are plenty of other ways for organizations to spend their advertising budget.
- axpvms 2y agoMusk made his opinion regarding advertisers pretty clear: "Go F Yourself"
- labrador 2y agoFree speech is not equal to consequences free speech
