In other countries, maybe, but what we’re experiencing in the US seems very much based upon “lie” based media consumption. Right now we have political candidates who will cheerfully, and without pause, tell lies and use any form of image manipulation to try and influence the vote - whether this be by traditional means or using AI - and the supporters not only lap it up but then spread this information far and wide. It used to be that one needed proficiency in a tool to manipulate images, now access to a suitable AI LLM with broken or deliberately weakened safeguards is all that’s needed.
