I've Created a Free and Open Source Index for Newsletters and RSS Feeds
This is my "break out of tutorial hell" project. After (sadly) 2 years of learning python, puppeteer(node.js) and a bunch of other random things (dart etc.) while making unfinished projects like a "ai notification generator" I have finally made a decent project. Try it out, there is a free no-auth API that you can use, the GitHub is linked in the contacts section. To anyone interested in launching a Newsletter or RSS Feed try it out, (thenewsletterindex.info). ProductHunt is in the footer of the home page. So yeah. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
should launch on product hunt soon
Thanks (:
- genezeta 2y agoImmediate feedback: Try not submitting multiple times the same link. Other than that, there appear to be some problems with your site. 1. If I click on the "technology" tag I get to /category/technology, but if I click a different tag, one where there is no content, I get redirected to /. This is problematic because I get no indication that the category is empty and it feels like something is not working. You probably shouldn't offer all those empty categories to click on if they are empty anyway. 2. If I click "technology" and get to that category, the other category tags disappear. To go to a different one, I need to go back to the home page and then click another tag. That feels unnecessarily annoying. 3. In the homepage, each newsletter block has a border. In a category page those blocks don't have a border. It feels inconsistent. 4. Category tags jump about when hovering the mouse over them. 5. On each newsletter block, only the smallish "See more" button at the bottom is clickable. It would be much more helpful if the whole block was clickable. 6. Similarly to point 2, if I click on a newsletter's "See more" button (e.g. https://www.thenewsletterindex.info/letters/y1vjZrg8UKWihIPeGlr0KQ https://www.thenewsletterindex.info/letters/y1vjZrg8UKWihIPe... ) I'm thrown on a page that: a. Doesn't have the website's header so the only way to navigate is through the browser's back button. b. Uses a completely different colour scheme. c. Has a "If The Box Below If Blocked, That Means That The Owner Has Not Allowed Iframes." message which the user doesn't care about. You are showing something and it is not working. But this information you present to the user serves no purpose because the user can't do anything to make it work. 7. This is probably the most important problem: You have no content. And so, you have no product. Because, let's face it, while your code may be valuable and well written and whatever, this project you're presenting has absolutely no value without content, without actual newsletters in it.
