I decided a while ago that my personal project must either be released as Open Source or commercial software. That keeps me honest, because releasing software as Open Sources exposes it to others so I try to make those projects as good as I can make them and releasing commercial software incentivises me to make it cost me less in support cost. That approach has helped me cull the number of unfinished projects.
