I've come to really like language servers for big personal and work projects where I already have my tools configured and tuned for efficiently working with it. But being able to grep is really nice when trying to figure out something out about a source tree that I don't yet have set up to compile, nor am I a developer of. I.e., I've downloaded the source for a tool I've been using pre-built binaries of and am now trying to trace why I might be getting a particular error.
