Elon Musk Promotes Tweet Calling for 'Republic' Run by 'High Status Males'
- big-green-man 2y agoThis is a dupe but the other one is flagged so I figured I'll say here what I said there. This is "news" about a reddit thread from yesterday. Someone went on a spiel about alpha and beta and neurodivergent or whatever and he said "interesting observation." So now he supports polygamous social structure ruled by the strongest or some such nonsense. There was an interesting observation in the spiel once you throw away all the bullshit about testosterone and what not: most people follow the tribe instead of thinking for themselves. This isn't some novel idea, is well studied and well supported by science, so much so that marketing firms pay good money to give people the impression that a lot of people think or like something because if others believe that they'll go along with it. That's the scientific fact that underlies Reddit valuation as a company, and it was interesting watching the target marks parrot what they heard earlier that day in response to the post that spurned the existence of this article also doing the same.
- uberman 2y agoI was sure this was a fake, but no he actually does.
- Zigurd 2y agoThere are some goofy people with money and fringe politics in the US. Plus the whole world, even parts of Germany, seems to be forgetting what a bad idea fascism was.
- toomuchtodo 2y agoAlways has. Wealth doesn’t change you, it simply amplifies who you already were. https://www.google.com/search?q=elon+i+am+the+alpha https://www.google.com/search?q=elon+i+am+the+alpha
- WheelsAtLarge 2y agoThis kind of dribble is exactly why Musk bought Twitter. He has always had these views but he was smart enough not to reveal them since he could be canceled and lose his megaphone. By buying it, he knew he could express his point of view without anyone stopping him. The free speech he talked about was his own, not the overall public. It was smart on his part. It sucks for most of us since the general media can't stop echoing his views. The billions he paid were actually a bargain since he controls a large part of the world's media by the results of his X messages. He has the money to run X until his death. Twitter took a hold of the media's psyche that won't be going away any time soon.
- chiefalchemist 2y agoSo Musk is a symptom? The root problem is the media? But who is going to report it that accurately, the media?

- lulzury 2y agoIf you're someone like Musk, then attention is one of the most valuable assets you can get. If you can capture someone's attention, you can influence their thoughts. You can shape their perceptions. Even if what you share is outright false, once an idea is planted it becomes part of someone's mental landscape and with enough effort even their reality. Musk's acquisition of Xitter, supposedly in the name of free speech, and its degradation into a cesspool of violent, right-wing extremist, and downright pornographic posts gives a hint of just how Elon wants everyone to think of the world (even when it's not like that). After blocking like 1000 accounts and adding tons of words to my mute list, and seeing the same crappy timeline, I finally just deleted my account and joined Bluesky. Browsing Bluesky honestly feels like a breath of fresh air.
- ZeroGravitas 2y agoBald Brazilian Supreme Court Judge makes a decision. No, not like that!
- rsynnott 2y agoBloody hell, even for him this is pretty bad.
