McDonalds was a major investor in Chipotle from 1998 until 2006. If I recall correctly, Steve Ells (the founder of Chipotle) has said that this was one of the major reasons for the success of Chipotle. Personally I think the fact that Chipotle produce the food in front of you also contributes to the sense that it’s fresher than other fast food alternatives.
