just checked https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hughes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Hughes , and although Hughes' profile of rich, famous, technically inclined, and clearly eccentric, is an easy comparison, in contrast the only mention that article makes of any mass-market political dabbling on Hughes' part was an insistence on political correctness at post-acquisition RKO.
- rsynnott 2y agoMusk actually makes Hughes look... kinda stable, tbh. Hughes may have had interesting views on the correct sizes for peas, but he wasn't all that into trying to impose his Pea Views on everyone else. I'm kind of baffled that the Trump team thought he'd be helpful, _especially_ given they already had Vance. Vance and Musk are broadly the same sort of weirdo; two seems superfluous, even if there was a case for one (there probably was not). Both, I think, come across as much more alienating than Trump himself to most people.
