Sleeping in coach is awful. There's an untapped revenue source in auctioning off empty sleepers to people already on the train. Before they changed their booking systems about 10 years ago, you could always get on the train with a coach ticket and ask the conductor if any roomettes would be free all night, and they'd negotiate a token price with you. I'd even haggle for one during the day for a long nap after a sleepless night in observation watching movies on my laptop.
