- yawpitch 2y agoAt least 90% of the time if you’re warning a tourist about either you’re telling them to avoid something about as capable of harming them as food gelatine. Ignorant people are vastly more dangerous than all the phylum Cnidaria.
- pestatije 2y agook so here is a high voltage electric cable in the middle of your way, it has a 10% chance of being live, would you consider ignorant the guy who warns you about it?
- yawpitch 2y agoIf we’re talking about Cnidaria, there's a 90% chance it’s a garden hose, a 9% chance it’s attached to a 9V battery, a 0.9% chance it’s a low amperage 120V line, and a 0.09% chance it’s really, really dangerous. If your death in any way involves a jellyfish or siphonophore, it’s most likely because you drowned reacting in ignorant fear to something that couldn’t have seriously injured you.
- pestatije 2y ago...hence a warning would be helpful, not a fools errand
- yawpitch 2y ago… just make sure you warn them about the water and the air and the land first, all three of which are statistically more likely to kill or injure them.
- pestatije 2y agonext time i warn anybody ill ask first if their half as square...theres no bigger ignorants than the knowitalls
- yawpitch 2y ago… except, of course, the know nothings who fight to remain ignorant. But please, keep wasting your time and that of the people you’re warning against non-existent harms.
- defrost 2y agoIf it's all the same to you we'll keep on putting up signs warning people during Carukia barnesi season. https://youtu.be/813rObuxJvc?t=28 https://youtu.be/813rObuxJvc?t=28
- yawpitch 2y agoThe whole point is to save the warnings for the 0.9% case when there’s actually a dangerous jellyfish about, so if you know one of those (very) rare species is about, go nuts.
