JPMorgan's Python training for business analysts and traders
- Py_Finance 2y agoThis course is up to date. It's been used by several banks to train their new analysts and associates and is designed specifically for finance professionals >> https://pyfi.com/pages/bundle-offer https://pyfi.com/pages/bundle-offer

- xanth 2y agoThis strikes me as a shit post; but does it have any specific contemporary reference its making?
- mikestew 2y agoIf you have to ask, it's not even very good shitpost, is it? I have no idea what GP is on about.

- JSDevOps 2y agoIt’s quite out of date isn’t it.
- timkpaine 2y agoIndeed, I haven't updated it since well before I left
- JSDevOps 2y agoAh it was you? That’s awesome. The airline link no longer works.
- timkpaine 2y agoI'm sure I'll get a thousand PRs in the next few weeks that change everything EXCEPT that link like the great Hacktoberfest debacle that never actually ended...
- chirau 2y agoLol. How far back did you leave? Did you not hand it over to someone or this was a freebie from you to the company?
- timkpaine 2y agothere was nobody to hand it over to, presumably they replaced it with a more formal, complete training. It was an intermediate in a larger trend of teaching sales/traders to code https://www.ft.com/content/4c17d6ce-c8b2-11e8-ba8f-ee390057b8c9 https://www.ft.com/content/4c17d6ce-c8b2-11e8-ba8f-ee390057b...
- giantg2 2y agoKnowing big corps, it'll either still be in use 20 years from now, or in 2 years they'll switch to Julia.
- Tagbert 2y agoI prefer the article title that my eye's read when I first opened the page: "Monty Python's training for business analysts and traders" I'm sure that that was required reading at the Crimson Permanent Assurance corporation.

- anonu 2y agoA quick review of the notebooks shows its more just a recipe cookbook for some basic tasks.. I don't really see how this is "training".
- timkpaine 2y agoA quick review of the lecture notes shows its more just a recipe cookbook for some basic tasks...I don't really see how this is a university course.
- WrongAssumption 2y ago"This course is designed to be an introduction to numerical computing and data visualization in Python. It is not designed to be a complete course in Computer Science or programming, but rather a motivational demonstration of how relatively complex topics can be accessible even to those without formal progamming backgrounds. This training is designed to be conducted in-person, led by J.P. Morgan technologists and traders."
- giantg2 2y agoIn my experience, that's more "training" than a lot of big corps provide.
- brcmthrowaway 2y agoDoes JPM have a global python object system like GS?
- deleted 2y ago[deleted]
- rr808 2y agoYes its called Athena
- Mainsail 2y agoSome comments in here already touching on this being dated. Any suggested resources that are up-to-date? Paid or free.
- zranger100 2y agoHard to find newer things in Python. Perhaps: https://github.com/JuliaQuant https://github.com/JuliaQuant Used at Jane Street: https://dev.realworldocaml.org/ https://dev.realworldocaml.org/
- __mharrison__ 2y agoI do a lot of Python and data science training in person and online. I have written many books (pandas, Polars, XGBoost) and more. Link in my profile.

- xyst 2y agoIf this is what they are using as “training”, no wonder my portfolio with them doesn’t perform. Rookies
- A4ET8a8uTh0 2y agoKnowing life, this is not the actual "training" but just a course that was allowed to squeeze through multiple layers of reviews and approvals and was deemed benign enough and useless enough that it can be disclosed. Not that the actual training is any better.. hell, our company recently made a big show of "giving" us access to a training platform, which, among other things, had basically a pdf book, but restricted with ridiculous controls. I sincerely doubt anyone learns that way... sadly, I am not helping, because now to show I am doing stuff, I up those stats artificially. I suck.
- numbaphile 2y agoFormer JPM quant here. This sounds right. Maybe this is something an intern was paid to write. It says training for "business analysts" (I think fresh college grads?) and "traders," not quant researchers.
- timkpaine 2y agoThis was for the markets analyst training program (all new grads hired into sales/trading positions) and also done with a handful of clients’ analyst training programs.
- timkpaine 2y agoSort of, this is the generic part that was combined with a lot of Q/A and examples which weren’t written down. The empty “data” notebook was a bunch of interacting with Bloomberg to pull out data and do calculations, similar to what would be done in Excel. This is where a lot of the tangible, immediately relevant content was.
- timkpaine 2y agoi know its a joke, but the people that would’ve attended this would’ve never handled your portfolio. that would be the chase side.
- markus_zhang 2y agoI think it's a lot more interesting to read the source code of Bank Python as well as its proprietorial editor.
- boppo1 2y agoIs this available publicly?
- timkpaine 2y agoNo, but you can find some snippets: https://youtu.be/M9o9SF5-Pzw?si=Nw-UcTN9HJnIo_6d https://youtu.be/M9o9SF5-Pzw?si=Nw-UcTN9HJnIo_6d https://thehftguy.com/2020/07/09/the-most-remarkable-legacy-system-i-have-seen/ https://thehftguy.com/2020/07/09/the-most-remarkable-legacy-...
- markus_zhang 2y agoNo I don't think so. But it would be very interesting to take a look if possible.
- m3kw9 2y agoFor a second I thought of trying it, but then I thought there is zero alpha in doing such thing
