Zuckerberg's Spineless Surrender: Rehashing Old News to Enable False Narratives
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoThis article is hilariously misguided. It was spineless to cave into the Biden administration’s pressure to unconstitutionally censor free speech, and corrupt social and political and scientific discussion. But it was courageous, even if delayed, to speak up now and expose this unacceptable violation of the most basic civil liberty - free speech. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that TechDirt would actually put out something like this, basically justifying authoritarianism. This sad saga of COVID censorship almost certainly hurt the economy and quality of life, but also took away accountability for the CCP by leading to censorship of very reasonable topics like the possibility of a lab leak. Not to mention the corrupt lies of Fauci and the NIH around funding gain of function research in Wuhan, where they also pressured tech companies into censorship and also straight up obstructed FOIA requests. Unfortunately it is too late now to conduct a trustworthy site visit and determine the truth. Even the prior WHO visit was worthless because it was a year late and literally had the person heading the problematic research at the visit as the only representative for the US. Free speech is foundational for any free society, and it is sad to see so many people wanting to be told what to believe by their government. EDIT for context: Fauci’s problematic actions were partially pre COVID and in 2020 (during the Trump administration), but have been defended by him and Biden since then. An example of a 2020 action that ended up causing censorship, consider the infamous Lancet letter pushed by Fauci and Daszak (who received NIH funding for the gain of function research) that falsely cast doubt on the lab leak theory. As an example of a later problematic action during the Biden administration, Fauci and others received training on how to evade FOIA transparency requests from a staff member they hired for this purpose, by doing things like purposely misspelling keywords or using code words to avoid having things show up on FOIA search queries. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/28/health/nih-officials-foia-hidden-emails-covid.html https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/28/health/nih-officials-foia... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancet_letter_(COVID-19) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lancet_letter_(COVID-19)
- rhelz 2y agoUmm.....you do realize that COVID happened in 2020, right? I.e. right in the middle of the Trump administration? Or is this just another hallucinating LLM weaponized for getting us all upset at each other?
- anigbrowl 2y agocorrupt social and political and scientific discussion as if lies and BS didn't exist. Be serious.
- jauntywundrkind 2y agoFacebook has hired Dustin Carmack - an author of the radical extremist Project 2025 - as Director of Public Policy of the US South. https://newrepublic.com/post/185306/project-2025-dustin-carmack-meta https://newrepublic.com/post/185306/project-2025-dustin-carm... This company is aligned politically to instigate & antagonize. This news drop is calibrated to cause shit. And looking at who they employ, it's unsurprising.
