What about Blender? Is it not a canonical success story? I feel that science, art, and tools that provide personal agency are all compelling landscapes for open-source fruition.
- fsloth 2y agoOne of the reasons Blender is so amazing is that it's an outlier. It's also not in the class "generating billions of dollars of value" unlike some basic components like, say, Linux kernel or SSH to name a few (in an ocean of extremely valuable software components).
