It's a symptom of a problem within the US too. We're an enormous country with dozens of member states and territories, but we obsess about a tiny fraction of the politics. I've known how I'm voting for president for a very long time, but I don't even know what's on the ballot yet for things that probably influence my life more than the presidency. Those couple things just suck up all the attention.
