It's time we stop funding schools from property tax and fund all schools equally regardless of location.
- trilbyglens 2y agoGiant fucking THIS. Property tax to fund schools is an absolutely indefensible policy that genuinely rubs up on the edges of a human rights violation. It's a mechanism purpose built to both gentrify and to drive a wedge between social classes in America. Property _tax_ as we currently deploy or is also shit. The fact that people can be forced out of generational homes simply because their neighborhoods improve is utterly reprehensible. Property tax should be progressive, and be higher the more properties you own, and the higher your income is. If you own a home outright, it should be illegal for any mechanism to force you out.
