The dumb phone was $70
It has a replaceable battery replaceable Sim card. It’s totally waterproof has a two day battery, Internet, Bluetooth, GPS, limited unlocked android applications web access through minified android with t9 and arrow keys.
Most likely I’m going to switch to that type of phone too when I need a new one
I think people are starting to understand what they gave up by adopting the smart phone as an accessory brain extension controlled by ad companies
- thunderbong 2y agoI've been looking for something like this. Could you tell me which phone this is?
- AndrewKemendo 2y agoCAT S22 https://www.reddit.com/r/dumbphones/s/53dbm79jyx https://www.reddit.com/r/dumbphones/s/53dbm79jyx
- dagmx 2y agoIs that (Cat S22) really a dumb phone? It runs Android Go (https://www.android.com/versions/go-edition/ https://www.android.com/versions/go-edition/). It can run a variety of Android apps. I don’t really understand how it could be classified as “dumb” anymore than any other smartphone if you just stick with the built in apps? Perhaps it helps you have more self control on what you install because the interaction methods aren’t geared to most apps?
- AndrewKemendo 2y agoYeah the point is to make it hard but not impossible to do almost all of the things you can do with a smartphone It’s the habituation that needs to be broken and making it harder to do the habit is a good middle point
- thebruce87m 2y ago> It’s totally waterproof Without seeing it: it isn’t. It might be water resistant under certain circumstances if you follow the instructions to seal it exactly, and the seals are fresh with no contamination. https://www.iec.ch/ip-ratings https://www.iec.ch/ip-ratings
