Ask HN: What cloud storage are you using?
What personal cloud solution are you using in 2024 and why?
Also, what is one feature that you would love to have in your existing cloud storage provider?
Personally, I am using Google Photos for Images and Drive for Photos, for a period I used Skiff, unfortunately the closed.
- timonoko 2y agoAll of them. Google Photos/Drive because of AI-search. Dropbox because easy integration with local filesystems. Onedrive because sometimes one just has to use Windows.
- vednig 2y agoIt's true. Dropbox is easier for Businesses than Google Drive for Work. And OneDrive has better integration with windows. Three different apps seem like a hassle. What type of work do you utilize all three services for primarily? Also, what mobile device are you using? Does the ability to sync work well along with the features you use?
- timonoko 2y agoAndroid Total Commander has plugins for all above mentioned services. So they are well integrated together. I dont even have those official apps installed.
- solardev 2y agoGoogle Drive, cuz it's easy and cheap and works with my phone and Chrome and Google Photos and Docs and such. I don't think I'd consider switching to any other provider. Too much hassle and less ecosystem support. It's 2024 and I prefer my cloud storage to just be invisible in the background, not something I ever have to think about.
- vednig 2y agoSo, I believe you have utilized free 15GB storage and you are currently paying for Drive storage, right? Also, I don't find Drive Desktop App any helpful, it is very limited and feels like bloatware. Do you feel the same or are your needs fulfilled via Chrome's features?
- solardev 2y agoYeah, I pay for a few hundred gigs. Forget exactly how much. I don't use the desktop app because I have nothing from my desktop to sync. It's all in the cloud to begin with (gdocs, etc.) or in github.
- yiyiya 2y agoI always use Google Drive and Dropbox, and feel good. Now, I discover one new product, Habox. I use it to transfer files. I'm interested in its post function. This is quite novel.Sorry, I said too much.
- vednig 2y agoA little background, we are re-building cloud storage and I understand there are several existing problems with existing solutions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
