Chick-fil-A plans to launch streaming service with original shows
- mrandish 2y agoIf it's true CFA are considering a paid subscription video streaming service, it strikes me as an unwise brand extension into a totally unrelated market. And I actually like CFA. Based on my personal experiences, they've managed to succeed in a highly competitive industry by executing extremely well. Quality, consistency, speed and service are all top-of-class. Financially, per-location they are apparently by far the most profitable fast food chain. This is all hard stuff requiring deploying a bunch of highly evolved core competencies across a diverse national footprint. Conversely, the subscription streaming business is a relatively new, emerging industry that is continuing to evolve rapidly while going through some significant challenges recently. Even the first-moving leader Netflix and media industry giant Disney are both now struggling despite their respective momentum (NetFlix) and strong cross-over media brands + deep experience (Disney). The video streaming business leverages none of CFA's operational or managerial competencies. And with the fast food industry now under increasing fundamental pressure due to spiraling labor costs. Rapid minimum wage escalation is accelerating the need to shift long-time operating models to radically new models based on heavy automation, this is hardly the time to be losing focus on job #1.
