For me the join problem doesn't exist anymore, because I use the excellent Django ORM for work and hobby projects.
This is a SELECT with 5 joins:
Foo.objects.filter(a__b__c__d__e=3)
Types are respected, valid relations exist and invalid relations do not. Clean.
