I still get "security updates" for Windows 7 Professional and am unsure what the lack of "support" might mean for my business.
- jborean93 2y agoExtended support ended in Jan 2020 and the paid ESU support ended in Jan 2023 [1]. Are you sure those updates aren't just defender/AV definition updates rather than actual OS updates? - graycat 2y agoPerhaps: "Defender" is what I've noticed.
- bravetraveler 2y agoAnti-virus definitions, not really exhaustive security maintenance. Defender is their AV. The firewall/kernel isn't included, for example How important that is, no idea! The firewall is probably passable but I generally don't know your risk profile. Applications and the rest of the system offer a lot of surface area

- yyyk 2y agoOdd, there are still Windows 2008 R2 patches. Why? I thought ESU year 4 ended in Jan 2024...
- graycat 2y agoWOW! Looks good. Thanks!
- _mlbt 2y agoYou should try Start11, it gives you a classic Windows UI on modern versions of Windows that are still actively receiving security patches. https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/ https://www.stardock.com/products/start11/
- unleaded 2y agolooks more like the opposite to me
- flir 2y agoAn error occurred during a connection to www.stardock.com. PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR Error code: PR_CONNECT_RESET_ERROR The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified. There's an irony there somewhere. (It's probably because I disable some cipher suites).
- philistine 2y agoFrom the people who brought you ... Sins of a Solar Empire??
- BSDobelix 2y ago>Sins of a Solar Empire?? A game released 12 years ago and still gets regular patches? Completely fine with that.
- philistine 2y agoI know, it's just weird they make games and Windows software.
- BSDobelix 2y agoLike Microsoft? ;)
- yyyk 2y ago0patch* is supposed to help with these old systems, but I don't have experience with it beyond hearing about it. * https://0patch.com/ https://0patch.com/
