Disney drops bid to stop allergy death lawsuit over Disney+ terms
- theGeatZhopa 2y agoTo late Disney.. to late.. I thought about getting Disney+ and visiting Disney land in Paris. Now I won't do the one nor the either. Not because of sympathy with the family having a loss, not because I'm allergic myself - it's just a way of living and a mantra to keep assh*les out of reach of my fists. In that case it's you. It's you.
- latexr 2y agoIs this really the thing that pushed you over the edge? Not to downplay the situation, but this probably doesn’t even qualify for the top 500 of asshole things Disney has done since its inception.
- pavel_lishin 2y agoSure, but how many of them make the news where theGeatZhopa would have encountered them?
- latexr 2y agoThere’s a whole Wikipedia page dedicated to criticisms of Disney. It’s so long that Wikipedia is further splitting it into more pages. Plenty of those cases were covered by mainstream news. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_the_Walt_Disney_Company https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_the_Walt_Disney_C...
- theGeatZhopa 2y agoCriticism is one thing, but pulling such a thing - a ordinary brain can't even take it. It's truly evil :) I can understand their intentions, but for me as a human being who thinks "if done bad, then stand by it and accept the situation", this can't be accepted! But you're right - Disney has a lot of bads on their back. And yes, if everyone would just stand up NOW and giving a backlash, it would be good for future handling of such happenings. How can that even happen that they pull a contract of a completely unrelated and argument on this??? ... It looks like "let's try it and see if the other party is getting on their knees". Evil!
- brookst 2y agoCompletely predictable response to PR fiasco. Some lawyer in the parks division thought they were super clever for finding one simple trick, and the weight of public opinion and bad press will do 100x more harm than the potential cost savings from using the trick.
- uberman 2y agoYes and 50k seems like a paltry sum. When a guest dies in your park and it could potentially be viewed as even partially your fault and all their estate is asking for is 50k... You immediately settle and then if you must, sue the ass of the third party vendor. This was a major management failure in my opinion.
- Ekaros 2y agoThey did this over 50k? They will spend more than that on the billed time... Just pay it with condition of iron-clad silencing agreement which of they must have thousands around...
- 83 2y agoIf you read the complaint they are seeking a "sum in excess of 50k". This is likely to get proper jurisdiction as 50k in damages bumps it from county level court up to state circuit. It's a sad statement about online reporting that so many sites ran with the 50k number and don't list the case number or its publicly available complaint/filings: Case: 2024-CA-001616-O : PICCOLO, JEFFREY Jvs.GREAT IRISH PUBS FLORIDA INC et al. https://myeclerk.myorangeclerk.com/CaseDetails?cItem=KLLpI1zytvJI1%2Fwc%2B3dVNooOgInmWX3d%2BhgcaZePg9tIOHR54ZK4nIQLqEXCwknlQVCY%2F7bqo0CfzxY%2FTW0bapSSpSoIr1uLeWwWU5lVOCs%3D https://myeclerk.myorangeclerk.com/CaseDetails?cItem=KLLpI1z...

- fullshark 2y agoI hope more people wake up to the fact that corporations are fundamentally sociopathic entities in society, even beloved ones like Disney.
- aleph_minus_one 2y ago> corporations are fundamentally sociopathic entities in society Corporations are not sociopathic (they are not even sentient), people are. > even beloved ones like Disney Depends a lot on the social group. I know quite some people for who have about the same love for Disney as for genital herpes.
- fullshark 2y agoYet people anthropomorphize them constantly.
- aleph_minus_one 2y agoPeople also anthropomorphize stuffed animals.
- jimt1234 2y agoCorporations are, indeed, people. Just ask Citizens United, which really boosted the legal concept of "corporate personhood". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citizens_United_v._FEC
- rlpb 2y ago> Disney says it is in the process of submitting a filing to the court to withdraw its call for arbitration. If all that's changed is their PR situation then it seems like it's a further abuse of process to do even this. The judge should rule on their legal position regardless.
- fullshark 2y agoDon't lawyers withdraw motions all the time?
