The only real long-term solution to mob behavior is to prioritize critical thinking and analysis skills in education, rather than relying on passive indoctination approaches. People trained this way are resistant to mass manipulation strategies of all kinds, from advertising for drugs, alcohol, junk food and subprime loan opportunities, to political campaigns and organized religion (aka 'cult') recruitment. If you have a population of brainwashed zombies, and you're fighting over which political party gets to control the brainwashing machine instead of freeing people from any kind of brainwashing entirely, you're probably one of these people who think humans are inherently incapable of thinking for themselves and thus have to be indoctrinated with right thoughts or society will devolve into chaos and anarchy, like a riot in the monkey cage at the zoo - or perhaps you're a member of that small minority that benefits from an perpetuating an ignorant, brainwashed population of zombie consumers, and are acting out of rational self-interest.
