Extreme misogyny to be treated as terrorism
- richrichie 2y agohttps://archive.is/ymUxn https://archive.is/ymUxn “Teachers, healthcare professionals and local authority staff are under a legal duty to make a referral to the Prevent scheme if they believe someone is susceptible to becoming radicalised. Anyone who is referred to Prevent is then assessed by their local authority and the police to see if they need to be deradicalised.”
- SavageBeast 2y agoTime to buy some Deradicalizer stocks I guess.
- underseacables 2y agoThis won't be abused at all, certainly not. Such dramatic overreach will be astutely avoided by the benevolent government authorities. /S
- pestatije 2y agoim sure their leaving the definition of 'extreme' to the judge
- BillyTheMage 2y agoAh yes, the 4 categories of extremism: Islam, the right, people who care about animals, and incels. Who came up with these categories?
- eesmith 2y agoThere are 6 categories listed in the article, not 4: > There are several extremism categories ranked by the Home Office as an area of “concern”, including Islamist, extreme Right-wing, animal rights, environmental and Northern Ireland related extremism. > There is also a category for “incel” ... (The 2023 guide at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prevent-duty-guidance https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/prevent-duty-guid... says of incels, "It is possible that violent adherents to movements and subcultures, such as Involuntary Celibacy (Incels), could meet the threshold of terrorist intent or action, should the threat or use of serious violence be used to influence the government or intimidate the public.") This strongly suggests there are additional categories, but I cannot find that Home Office list. As for who came up with them, the article says the Home Office.
- SavageBeast 2y agoAlternatively, the could simply treat abject TERRORISM as 'Terrorism'. Stabbing little girls was already against existing laws. Never let a good crisis go to waste as they say in American politics.
- kstenerud 2y ago> he warned that hundreds of thousands of sex abusers and paedophiles were at large and tackling them would require more resources from future governments. Won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!! > Teachers, healthcare professionals and local authority staff are under a legal duty to make a referral to the Prevent scheme if they believe someone is susceptible to becoming radicalised. Anyone who is referred to Prevent is then assessed by their local authority and the police to see if they need to be deradicalised. Riiight... No chance of that ever becoming Kafkaesque.
- defrost 2y agoAs per usual The Telegraph standards: Headline (statement): Extreme misogyny to be treated as terrorism Reality: unlikely. Fact: Yvette Cooper, the Home Secretary, has ordered a review of Britain’s counter-extremism strategy to urgently address gaps in the Government’s stance, and then there's a whole lot more tangential material The Tele has "and also" sweep in under the umbrella. People that go on killing sprees to scare the community, be they incels, religious fanatics, et el will likely be charged under terrorism laws for any acts of terror they commit.
