LoFone is the antidote to smartphone addiction
- dredmorbius 2y agoPricing? Availability? Specs?
- gorjusborg 2y agoI think I'm squarely in the market for sonething like this. But, one feature I feel would keep me away is support for MFA OTP, like Microsoft authenticator. Any idea on whether that would be available at launch?
- rlad 2y agoSince it has the eink it could also be a book reader. I know that once too many things are added it takes away from the low aspect, but that seems like a good one to me.
- dredmorbius 2y agoIt's hard to get a sense of dimensions from the images show, but this seems likely to be a ~5" screen, possibly smaller. You can read on a device of that size, but would do much better with a larger device in most cases, 8" minimum for flowed text, 10" or 13" if you read many PDFs. (I've been driving a 13.3" Onyx BOOX for the past 3+ years, and like it a lot. One of its key strengths is its size, though that comes with a price.)
- mixmastamyk 2y agoI’d avoid the MS Auth app, even if it was written well. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41275846 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=41275846 Prefer a FLOSS alternative.
- jdalgetty 2y agoI’d still want to see the pictures I took.
- nightowl_games 2y agoI'd like to know how it supports music and navigation and if it's an Android device at heart
- dredmorbius 2y agoAmongst the very scant text on TFA: Calls and texts Messaging Payments Music & Podcasts Navigation WiFi hotspot That's "yes" to your first two questions. Unclear as to the third.
- nightowl_games 2y agoI didn't ask a 'yes or no' question. I asked 'how'. ie: spotify?
- dredmorbius 2y agoGah! I missed that, sorry. Very sloppy reading on my part. That said: yes, the announcement is embarrassingly poor on any degree of specifics. Even broad outlines would be helpful. Mind that music and podcasts are both generic capabilities. I'd hope that the LoFone is taking a standards-based, Free Software approach.
