Something to ruminate on!
At first blush, what is HN.
At second, the principle of individuation as the shadow of the Apollonian|X
[we’re taking GT seriiusly here, yes?]
- gradschoolfail 2y agoWorth reconsideration: preface to GT https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/An_Attempt_at_Self-Criticism https://en.wikisource.org/wiki/An_Attempt_at_Self-Criticism (As well as version 1870) (Please ignore his narcissism lol)
- 082349872349872 2y agoIt's a (romantic if not logical) shame that my usual sources have full scans for 1872, but not for the edition(s) containing Versuch einer Selbstkritik.

- gradschoolfail 2y agoLikewise, Sir.. Apologies for the slight (or severe?) misdirection. Heres my attempt to remediate.. & a more refined suggestion to dig out FWN’s earlier, unlabelled, docking attempt.. With that blunt but rather understated (and in some degree disingenuous) entry in one of his notebooks from 1872 – far more deadpan in tone than many others of the same period (there is, for instance, a nearby note which equates philologists with castrati ...) – Friedrich Nietzsche encapsulates the inescapable provocation of The Birth of Tragedy: a work written by a classical scholar in defiance of the most fundamental norms and protocols of his profession. - 082349872349872 2y agoOne thing I love about russian music videos is that while explicit acknowledgement (breaking the cave wall?) of the Nachahmung eines Scheinbildes is rare, and (pace The Muppet Show) considered "artsy"*, in the Old Country: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9dFKRZ8EbU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9dFKRZ8EbU there it's difficult to avoid, for even pop stars (or those who aspire thereto) tend to not only have frame stories but even make vaudeville (or at least concert) allusions, eg:
- 082349872349872 2y agoJung would be happy with HN, for it projects a serene high Apollonian, especially on the front page, but those of us who scurry in the wainscotings of its long tail know a few ways to introduce Dionysus in mortal disguise, horns hidden when he appears in Theban public, but always with the potential (especially once far enough down the thread/up the mountainside) to tear apart and recombine ideas in wild abandon... Lagniappe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM_G0IRLEx4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MM_G0IRLEx4 (someday someone ought to write "The principle of individuation as Fermi-Dirac statistics, or, the worship of Dionysus among the Bosons")
