Driver's licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet are coming soon to California
- LeoPanthera 2y agoPre-emptively, because this always comes up: "When presenting a driver’s license and state ID in Apple Wallet, only the information needed for the transaction is presented, and users will need to review and authorize using Face ID or Touch ID before the information is shared. Users do not need to unlock, show, or hand over their device to present their ID."
- brookst 2y agoI know you're quoting the linked text, but "show" seems questionable there? How would you not even show the device while presenting ID?
- jerlam 2y agoIt sounds like some places have NFC enabled for IDs: From https://learn.wallet.apple/id https://learn.wallet.apple/id: Add an eligible driver’s license or state ID to the Wallet app and present it at select TSA checkpoints by tapping your iPhone or Apple Watch. I have doubts this will matter for the majority of in-person transactions, where it took years for NFC purchasing to be accepted.
- brookst 2y agoYeah, and I read “you don’t have to show your device” as meaning “you don’t to show them the physical device”. I mean you could wrap it in a towel or something and do NFC, but that seems weird for everyone involved.
