- thegrim33 2y ago"According to an anonymous source", "according to someone familiar with X's thinking", "according to someone close to X", "we're told", etc., if I ever see anything like any of those I instantly assume I'm being lied to and I stop reading. All of those mean absolutely nothing and carry zero weight. It could have been the President that told them that, it could have been the homeless guy down the street. "Someone familiar with X's thinking" could be the journalist in the next room or it could be someone that used to work with them, nobody knows. All such phrases are weasel words/phrases, and any use of them is a major red flag.
- rideontime 2y agoIt's up to the reader to decide whether the journalist is trustworthy; based on the track records of the parties involved, I'm more inclined to believe the Verge.
