Musk claims there was a DDoS attack on X – but The Verge is told there was not
- paulpauper 2y agoX otherwise worked perfectly . It's possible attackers targeted a specific subdomain or component critical to the livestream that left the rest of twitter unharmed.
- taylodl 2y agoReally? Wouldn't it just be the load of people wanting to watch the interview?
- natch 2y agoDon't mean to blow your mind, but both can be true.
- whateveracct 2y agoso Elon either lied to save face or someone misinformed him
- olyjohn 2y agoIt's amazing really. It's his job to mitigate an attack like this. Especially on a platform the size of X. If he wasn't lying, then he let a DoS attack shut down his live stream, so he still fucked up.
- natch 2y agoThe live stream was fine, and everyone that wanted to got in. Started late, but they always do with Elon. The content was the problem -- super softball mild conversation. Elon stayed away from sensitive issues and Trump spouted a lot of lies about his great accomplishments.
- natch 2y agoIt was his working theory at the time. He might have been mistaken. It happens, omg.
- natch 2y agoThat passive voice… “the Verge is told” lol. Quality gotcha journalism.
- thegrim33 2y ago"According to an anonymous source", "according to someone familiar with X's thinking", "according to someone close to X", "we're told", etc., if I ever see anything like any of those I instantly assume I'm being lied to and I stop reading. All of those mean absolutely nothing and carry zero weight. It could have been the President that told them that, it could have been the homeless guy down the street. "Someone familiar with X's thinking" could be the journalist in the next room or it could be someone that used to work with them, nobody knows. All such phrases are weasel words/phrases, and any use of them is a major red flag.
- rideontime 2y agoIt's up to the reader to decide whether the journalist is trustworthy; based on the track records of the parties involved, I'm more inclined to believe the Verge.

- sillywalk 2y agoMusk makes lots of claims. I don't know why anybody believes him.
- bravetraveler 2y agoI'd be surprised if they aren't a regular occurrence, passing like the breeze. Of course these would be timed when most opportune, as would making a mountain of a molehill
- cvhc 2y agoAn article from The Register, which also questioned the claim: https://www.theregister.com/2024/08/13/trump_musk_livestream_ddos_delay/ https://www.theregister.com/2024/08/13/trump_musk_livestream...
