Can Nostr Make Twitter's Dreams Come True?
- theamk 2y ago> people fear out-of-control algorithms, fake news, state actor censorship, and propaganda Those are contradictory goals - if there are no algorithms and no moderation (be it from censorship from state actor, or moderation from network owner / instance owner / relay admin), then the network is flooded with fake news and propaganda the moment it becomes at least somewhat important. I am not 100% how nostr works, but to be closer to "fake news and propaganda" side? Because I don't see much of moderation controls in there, it all seems to be on individual basis.
- janandonly 2y agoModeration means someone or something does the moderating. In other words, in the free marketplace of ideas we get distortions because some ideas aren’t observed. Think of Nostr as a protocol that creates an extreme free marketplace. It’s like a libertarian country. Like southern Somalia there is simply no government, just war lords and desert. Do you want to live there? No I guess not. Is it a good place to hide if big bad governments are chasing you? Maybe.
