Let me put it this way, Tesla now has two quarters of year-over-year declining sales. In that same time period, year-over-year EV sales increased. Sure, the headlines are EV sales hadn't increased as much as expected, but they did increase. That means somebody is eating Tesla's lunch.
- beardyw 2y agoLet's be clear, we had EVs in the 1960s. The idea does not belong to Tesla. No-one is "eating their lunch" because it's not their lunch. Car manufacturers come and go, again something I have witnessed many times.
- JohnFen 2y agoThey go back even further than that. The first practical, commercially available electric cars were on the market in 1890. Electric cars were a thing before gasoline-powered cars.
- beardyw 2y agoGood point. I was meaning I remembered them.
- taylodl 2y agoYes, someone is eating their lunch: Tesla's sales are down while industry sales are up. That means Tesla is losing market share. That's the essence of someone eating your lunch. Also, we've had EVs since the 19th century. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/g43480930/history-of-electric-cars/ https://www.caranddriver.com/features/g43480930/history-of-e...
- jqpabc123 2y agoTesla may know batteries --- but they don't know much about design. https://www.teslaoracle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2021-Tesla-Model-3-Interior.jpg https://www.teslaoracle.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/2021-... Running virtually *everything* through a big honkin', center mounted touch screen is just a bad idea from a design, usability and safety perspective. In many US states, it is illegal to use your touch screen phone while driving due to safety concerns. Tesla's solution is to build the touch screen into the car and *force* it's use. It may be a cute sales gimmick in the showroom --- but it wears thin on the road. In any case, Tesla is no longer a car company according to Musk. It is now an AI company --- one which has yet to succeed at producing a decent self driving mode after a decade of promises. It seems that most thing's Musk come with a supersized helping of hype.
