> “The tips we give everyone are the same: Come to LinkedIn ready to give back — help people on their economic paths by sharing what you know about work topics that matter to you,” said Dan Roth, editor-in-chief and vice president of product at the company. “The more open and authentic you are, the more likely you'll get people talking and responding.”
Funny. That recommendation is great for LI (but not so great for the rest of us). It has nudged LI into a vanity metrics death spiral.
That is, an emphasis on quantity (e.g., followers and views) over quality. Furthermore, in my feed, there's a steady stream of mediocre advice. It's not generational. It's mostly (lazy) people using the template: I've done this one thing once (read: sample size of one) and you should do it as well. Follow me. I will lead the way. And even lazier thinkers follow.
Frankly, LI is a reflection of why so many companies struggle and/or fail. Too little critical thinking. Too little creativity. Too many run-of-the-mill "new" ideas. Too much aversion to risk and experimenting.
In short, if you want to learn how to be successful, go to LI, listen, learn, do the opposite. I'm being heavy handed but not by much.
