Transgender woman raped 2000 times in all-male prison
- elmerfud 2y agoThe instances of prison rape is unfortunate. Transgenderism may shine some light on this but this is not a unique thing to simply housing transgenders with their biological gender. What's even more unfortunate is that law enforcement jokes about this being part of the punishment. Overall society talks about taking care of basic needs of people but as part of those basic needs they seem to ignore the sexual need. When outside of prison there are at least some outlets for this but in the US many of those outlets are considered criminal. When you put people into prisons they have methods to meet there most basic needs except this one. So you have people who have already made a choice they believe was rational to commit crime and you house them together with other people who have committed crimes but those crimes are of varying degrees. You ultimately get the worst of the worst in the idea there is no cooperation that is fostered to build a society instead you get continual competition of the most brutal sort. Of which sexual release is one of those things competed for. Trying to put in a solution for transgenders doesn't actually address the problem nor does it even attempt to. Because you can find similar stories where they've housed transgenders with their identified genders and rape occurs the other way. So there's two basic things that need to happen find a way that the sexual need can be fulfilled in a voluntary manner and place appropriate discouragements for fulfilling the sexual need in an involuntary manner. Not an easy problem but simply rehousing people who identify based on a gender isn't a solution either.
