The bell desk? That doesn't sound any safer. I've seen those doors standing open with nobody paying attention too often. Also, it just puts more targets in one location for the searchers. The best security is not to bring anything to a high-risk site you do not want searched or seen. The second best security is to keep valuables on your person, in a reinforced zipped or locked pocket or bag, and to never touch them or look at them in public. The third best security is to recognize that if humans can make it, humans can break it, so don't make or acquire high-risk content or valuables in the first place.
- gregjor 2y agoI wasn’t going for the best possible security, just something better than leaving stuff in your room. The post I responded to wasn’t about securing stuff, but detecting when hotel staff had looked at it. I practically live in hotels, including in Vegas. If you lock your bag and check with the bell desk they aren’t going to open it. If you’re staying in places with bags accessible to anyone find a better hotel.
