The people who originally created the agile principles devised it for consulting agencies, not product development. A lot of the ideas are relevant still, but there's a bit of chaff to sort through to get at the wheat. Not to mention the now capital-A Agile practices, courses, certifications(!!) and processes (!!?!?) which end up being exactly against the spirit of the original manifesto.
