Elias Canetti is best known for “Crowds and Power”, which is best known as the inspiration of the poem “On Reading ‘Crowds and Power’” by Geoffrey Hill. Canetti had only written that one book when he got the Nobel Prize, and was mostly unknown. It’s hard to imagine the Nobel Committee elevating an obscure journalist, giving him the highest honor for a writer, and then him returning to perpetual obscurity. If it was in a fictional book, it would be dismissed as unrealistic.
