- PaulHoule 2y agoThere is this stuff https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polylactic_acid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polylactic_acid which is has great properties for 3-d printing and is often used for plastic spoons and forks. Unfortunately "zero sort" recycling systems will sort PLA together with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate which is bad for the quality of the recycled PET. I put PLA in a category similar to Rayon as a biobased material with problems. (I absolutely love the feel of Rayon and the way it holds colors but factories in developing countries don't do a good job of protecting carbon disulfide. That said, if I have a few rayon shirts that I wear heavily and I'm proud of I think that's environmentally better than a wardrobe full of shirts that I don't actually wear.)
