Show HN: PlatePlanner – Design Beautiful Platemaps
Spend less time in excel and more time doing science. Design a platemap in seconds, share it with your team, and reuse it for future experiments.
- ninjha01 2y agoI am currently building out PlatePlanner - would love to get any and all feedback here or via email (nishant@nitro.bio)!

- Etheryte 2y agoI'm clearly not the target audience for this, so please give me some rope here. What am I looking at and what do people use these for? What's the pain point this tool solves?
- tahoupt 2y agoRather than using old school 3" or 4" Petri dishes, most molecular biology is now done in miniature culture wll plates, with 96 little wells (each holding maybe 20 microliters of cells or reagents) in the form factor of about a 3x5 card. With 96 different tubes, you can run a whole experiment on a single plate, with controls and replicates. Lots of infrastructure for "reading" the plates (taking measurements of reaction, incubating at set temperture, etc.) But that raises the issue of keeping track of what went in which of the 96 wells...
- yodon 2y agoThe site creator might want to read this answer and try to put some of those words into the home page text. At present, it feels like the only key word of relevance on the home page is "platemap", which might be what this is, but if the person who needs it searches for any other relevant term it looks like this page would not appear in search. Culture? Petri? Molecular Biology? I'm not in the space, so I don't know what the relevant keywords are, I just know they aren't on that page.
- ninjha01 2y agoYou're totally right - I'll update the copy to make the life science domain clearer.
- b20000 2y agoI thought this was for planning wedding dinner seating. Maybe there should be a little more background info on the page.
- marcosfelt 2y agoDoes this generate worklists for liquid handlers? Also recommend posting in https://labautomation.io/ https://labautomation.io/
- ninjha01 2y agoI think this would be an awesome feature to build out - if you're open to chatting about it, could you send me an email at nishant@nitro.bio ?
