OpenAI has first-mover advantage, but hardly a monopoly on the technology or the people behind AI. In fact, I think we’ve already hit peak Altman, and his star will be diminishing from here on.
- thelastparadise 2y agoTheir first-mover advantage has completely evaporated at this point.
- bamboozled 2y agoA lot of people seem to use Gemini where I work so I don’t think you’re right.
- DaSHacka 2y agoGemini is run by Google though, knowing a lot of people that use it only stands to serve GP's point that OpenAI is slowly losing their grasp on the AI market.
- astromaniak 2y agoIt's Copilot here, which is MS+OAI. But it's good that we have a healthy competition.
- mnky9800n 2y agoYeah what's their value add when zuck is giving away everything for free?
- hnthr_w_y 2y agoWhich is, honestly, good. Facebook couldn't capture it, so giving it away is far better than the earlier 'keep-it-only-for-us' approach of Google. I don't mean to say Facebook/Meta has anyone's best in their hearts, though.
- mnky9800n 2y agoI agree. Zuck is cutthroat. He knew this was the best play to win. I'm ok with that because I like the outcome. But also I feel like it will create a good precedent and further a good culture that benefits everyone, that is, free and open source software.
