CSV is king because most ETL department programmers suck. Half the time they can't generate a CSV correctly. Anything more complicated would cause their tiny brains to explode. I'm not bitter, I just hate working with ETL 'teams' that struggle to output the data in a specified format - even when you specify it in the way they want you to.
