It's always stuck with me reading reviews of Greg Egan's novels. In many of his novels characters are either non-human, post-humans, or AIs. Many folks criticize the character development, etc. My only assumption that that Greg's writing style strips out all the cruft that I find a slog. Because it doesn't have the cruft and focuses on ideas and messages, I love it.
