For context, https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwork/employmentandemployeetypes/bulletins/averageweeklyearningsingreatbritain/latest https://www.ons.gov.uk/employmentandlabourmarket/peopleinwor... says average weekly UK earnings are £643 (£33,436pa), or £689 (£35,828pa) including bonuses.
- ikesau 2y agoSure, but the fines are progressive, aka proportional to an individual's income. ~10mph over the limit = 75% of your weekly income. ~25mph over the limit = ~150% of your weekly income.
- dave4420 2y agoYeah, and if you want to know how this would affect an average person, you need to know how much they earn, right? And it probably feeds into the counterfactual of what the fine would be if it wasn’t linked to income.
- thanatos519 2y agoLosing a week's wage to someone near the poverty line is a big problem. Losing a week's wage to a high roller ... not such a problem. I think it should include + ((weekly income)^2)/N because R > G.
