Aphantasia might occur with other senses too. I'm almost certain I have aphantasia in taste and smells. I simply cannot conjure any in my head, even for extremely common ones like taste of apple or sun dried sheets. When people ask me about my opinion of food I just had, I'm simply recalling facts from my assessment made during the meal. It's very different from how I do it if I had to recall something visual like a painting, because I do have a vivid mental image.
- bengale 2y agoI’m sorry what? pPeople are doing this with taste and smell too? Can people just imagine all of their senses?
- Izkata 2y agoThere's a theory that people are in general bad at doing this with taste and smell because we don't have a lot of words specifically for taste/smell to attach the concepts to. Colors, for example, have their own words, but tastes and smells are in the context of objects they come from instead of standing on their own.
- BananaaRepublik 2y agoI asked around and a few people seem to have no problem "visualizing" tastes and smells, especially for common ones. I can imagine sense of touch too, I just assumed it's normal to be able to imagine all senses.
- edgarvaldes 2y agoI can see, taste and touch in my mind. Smell not so much. Its weird because food taste is strongly related to smell. But a fragance alone is very difficult to me.
