In articles like this our study of consciousness is strongly colored by our preference for thinking and writing. And that's arguably unavoidable, being thinkers in a society and such, but there you go.
A "clearer" study would require starting from some kind of zero. But nobody wants to go live in a cave and whoever did might not be inclined to write an article about it.
- ben_w 2y agoI think starting from zero would not work, as we all did that from wherever it is in our life cycle that consciousness emerges, be that "a cell at conception" or later. It would be another anecdote of one example of consciousness. What I think will work, is to examine all the different forms of consciousness — including not just animals, but also those humans we find unfathomable, alien, and impossible to empathise with.
- swayvil 2y agoThat would be putting the cart before the horse. Better to try for zero first, then theorize second.
