I know there are perfectly reasonable explanations, but I still find it fascinating and slightly mysterious that so many Roman structures are buried underground

I know there are perfectly reasonable explanations, but I still find it fascinating and slightly mysterious that so many Roman structures are buried underground and/or underwater. It's crazy to think that there's a whole geologic strata of Roman artifacts.
