IMHO, ignoring the parsing difficulty, the main issue with Markdown is it's difficult to write for non-technical users- 1 misplaced character can mess you up if you stick to the "spec". Markdown has already won over the technical users. Enjoy your infinite support tickets caused by markdown. RST does nothing to help this.
