I saw an interview on wired, the creator said while he was traveling through Japan, he stayed in a high rise hotel and felt lonely. That's where he got the idea for "Friend". It's a bit sad. I've traveled by myself a few times, never really felt alone that way. Now a days it's so easy to keep in touch with people, and for me, I have several groups I'm in where there's 24/7 people to chat with. A lot of them I consider to be my friends, I can send them a video or a picture of what I'm doing. Maybe instead of an AI "solution" he should have used to domain to make an indexer of discord servers for people to join groups. An internet friend is not a full replacement for a "real life" friend; but they can come pretty close. An AI bot is not really going to fulfill that vacuum at all.
