It's definitely not AI because this has been phenomenon for a long time. There's no simple answer to this question, I think it's the result of many different issues, and this post outlines a few of them pretty well. For me, I've begun to think that it's intractable for my own personal well being, and have been thinking about how to make my way out of the industry. Which isn't easy when you live in a HCOL area and don't really have other marketable skills.
